Votive embroidery

This installation was staged in the refrigeration chamber of a former glue factory, and comprised of a life sized anatomised figure embroidered in silk thread on shot silk, surrounded by small sculptures of organs and limbs in clay, glass wax, and beeswax. This work was inspired by research into votive offerings and sought to explore relationships between the acts of offering and healing, material culture, and the body.

Also shown are 3 embroideries made in the development of this installation, which combine thread with thet artist's own hair.
