Peep Shows and Playing Doctor, 2018

These two works, one consisting of a toy theatre with wax anatomical puppets and the other of six internally lit ‘peep show’ boxes with paper cut scenes, form one installation arranged in a manner reminiscent of Bentham’s panopticon. The central space is structurally open to all around, whilst each of the six boxes functions under its own interior logic and is discreet to its surroundings. With these pieces, Davy explores the common tropes and conventional wisdoms, visual and theoretical, of the medical world in order to examine how the body is seen and understood as well as the power dynamics that surround it.

These works were the artist's undergraduate degree show at the Glasgow School of Art in 2018.
